MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS 2000Dear Parents and Eligible Voters, Asalamu alaikum wa rahamatullahi wa barakatuhu.
As you may be aware, our children are faced with many challenges in the public school system in the GTA. They are deliberately taught materials and exposed to beliefs, values, lifestyles and practices that are contrary to Islam and civilised human codes. Our efforts to make the education system accommodating to the legitimate needs and rights of Muslims are met with institutionalised opposition. As Muslims, it is our right to ensure that the public education system meet Muslim needs and it seems that the only effective way of doing this is to be there ourselves to represent our interests directly, rather than entrust them to others.
If you would like to obtain a copy of the November 2000 Municipal and School Board Elections Form, by fax only, for your interest, please contact TDMEA. Only citizens at age 18 years and up are allowed to vote and participate in the elections. Please ensure that you are registered and have received the election form by June 1, 2000. Fill it and return it promptly to: Ontario Property Assessment Corporation 5255 Yonge St Suite 400 North York ON M2N 8P4. If you have not received this form as yet, or have any queries, please contact immediately the authorities at (416) 314 7832 or 1 877 499 5891. It is your personal responsibility to make sure that your name and eligible voting members of your family are registered on the voterís list for the elections. To vote is your right.
These elections are crucial for us as Muslims as they have very serious implications for us and our childrenís education with respect to our religious beliefs, values and practices in the public schools and society.
Should you require further assistance, please contact the TDMEA immediately as we would like to see Muslim Councillors and Trustees running our affairs and representing our interests ourselves. The Toronto District School Board has shown us that we cannot entrust our affairs to others.
Yours in Islam,
